Fed: Labor unveils $32.5 million early childhood program

Labor's unveiled the next instalment of its education revolution .. announcing an at-home
early childhood learning program for disadvantaged areas.

KEVIN RUDD says his government would work with the Brotherhood of Saint Laurence ..

to set up 50 community groups in Australia's most disadvantaged communities.

He says the Home Interaction Program would support up to eight thousand children from
three to five.

The two-year scheme would provide tutors to visit parents at home to provide personal
mentoring .. tutoring and support .. as well as books and learning materials.

The program's based on similar early intervention schemes in Canada .. the US .. Germany
and Israel.
