DENTURE CLEANSER TABLETS volume plummeted across the board in the mass market, despite the graying of America. In fact, of the top seven brands in the category, fourth-place Polident Overnight from GlaxoSmithKline was the only one to post a sales gain in drug stores. Volume of Polident Overnight advanced 4.1% to $3.1 million, giving it a 10% category share. Unit sales of the brand climbed 6.2% to 666,000, good for a 9.1% share.

Other lines in the Polident brand family, however, did not fare as well. Sales of No. 2 Polident dropped 6.4% to $7.6 million. The brand had a 24.4% category share. Unit volume fell 6.5% to 1.58 million, still good for a 21.7% share.
