Gregorio "Goyo" Vargas continued his climb back into world-titlecontention, pounding out a ninth-round technical knockout of AndreCray in a competitive lightweight fight that headlined a nationallytelevised card in west suburban Northlake.
Vargas, a former world featherweight title holder, dropped thelanky Cray with an overhand right in the eighth, decked him again inthat round and finished him off a round later with a flurry of blows.Referee Tim Adams stopped the contest at 1:10 of the ninth, givingVargas his 26th career knockout and improving his record to 35-6-1.
