Fed: Alice to Darwin railway contract to be signed today: Howard

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says a contract for the Alice Springs-to-Darwin railway
will be signed today.

Mr HOWARD says he hopes to travel to Whyalla in South Australia tonight to be involved
in the signing.

He says the Alice-to-Darwin railway is a project that governments have to support,
despite the cost.
