NSW: Thefts decrease despite Australians being careless
A leading insurance company says car and home robberies have decreased across the country-- despite Australians continuing to be careless about security.
AAMI director of corporate affairs RICHARD JEFFREY says car thefts dropped from 11.3claims per thousand policies in 2000 to 9.9 last year.
House robberies dropped from 22.7 to 20.8 claims per thousand policies during the same period.
But Mr JEFFREY says that despite the good news, most Australians aren't taking basicprecautions with their property -- such as installing immobilisers in their cars or havingback-to-base alarms fitted in their homes.
